Laugavegurinn

For the past three years, we have documented Laugavegurinn, the ultramarathon ÍBR holds each summer in the Icelandic highlands. The 55 km route runs from Landmannalaugar to Þórsmörk, across rhyolite mountains, black sand deserts and glacial rivers. Each year the brief was to capture the race in full, from the start line to the finish, and to produce content that shows both the scale of the landscape and the effort of the runners crossing it.

Our approach treated the race as an ongoing story rather than a single event. Teams were placed at key points along the route, and we combined wide landscape shots with close, personal moments from the runners, the volunteers and the crowds at the finish. Shooting the event over three consecutive years helped us refine the coverage each time and gave ÍBR a growing archive of content that reflects the spirit of Laugavegurinn and the people who take it on.
